Philadelphia, an innovative hub and the City of Brotherly Love, has a problem that's hidden behind it's skyline. Despite the ever growing food district, a lot of Philadlephians can't afford to eat.
According to the Pew “The State of the City” report in 2018, the city’s poverty rate is at about 26 percent and has the hailing achievement of being the poorest out of America’s 10 most popular cities.
Food insecurity has always been a problem for Philadelphians, especially it's children. In 2008, the rates for households with children that identified as food insecure peaked at a high of 21 percent. However, over the past decade, this rate dropped to an all-time low of 13.9 percent. Because of efforts made by organizations that combat this crisis, the number of households which identify as food insecure has dropped over 7% within the past decade.
